Max for Live · MIDI Effect

The bassline writes itself. Underground.

Bassurito generates underground-house sub and acid basslines and plays them locked to Live's transport — through whatever instrument sits after it on the track. Let it write the whole line, or mine it for ideas when you're stuck.

Heads up. This browser preview is a sketch of the controls, not the exact device UI. The real Bassurito runs inside Ableton Live.

Screenshot of the real Bassurito device in Ableton Live: Key and scale, Family (Sub, Acid), Feel and Bars controls, key, style, family, feel and bars locks, Randomize, Export MIDI and Write Clip buttons, style and variation seeds, history, and a piano roll of the current bassline.
The real thing, in Live

This is a limited taste, not the product: Sub family only, three scales, three feels, 1–2 bars, a simple built-in synth. The patterns come from the same generator as the device (same seeds, same notes for these options). The real Bassurito adds Acid, all 7 scales and 6 feels, 4- and 8-bar phrases with fills, locks, octave, history, Write Clip and MIDI export — and plays your own instrument inside Live.

Why it grooves

Random, but not random. Studied.

Infinite options. Zero amateur ones.

Bassurito is trained on real basslines.

It doesn't flip a coin per step. It plays real bassline rhythm skeletons from the library it was trained on, with call-and-response bars. Pitch is a data-weighted walk using scale-degree, interval and after-leap statistics from that same library. Fills and variation habits on bars 4, 6 and 8 come from its 8-bar material.

Tuned by ear and by numbers. Producer-grade groove, with intent.

Two ways to use it.

Steal the line

Re-roll until it hits, lock what works, Write Clip. Done. A finished bassline, straight into your arrangement.

Steal the idea

Stuck? Re-roll until something sparks, then play it your own way. An idea machine that already knows house.

Built for the moment the groove clicks.

Re-roll fast, keep what works, and get the line out of the device when you're done. Take the whole line, or just the idea.

  1. 01

    Locked to song time

Every step is read from Live's song position, so tempo changes, loop jumps and starting mid-arrangement stay aligned. Stop Live and it goes silent — no hanging notes.

  2. 02

    Randomize, with locks

Lock the key, the rhythm skeleton, the family, the feel or the phrase length — then re-roll everything else. Changes land on the next 16th or the next bar line.

  3. 03

    Two families, six feels

Sub for low house weight. Acid for mid-register 16ths. Pick Sparse, Balanced, Busy, Rolling, Syncopated or Stabby — or leave it on Random.

  4. 04

    Seeds that come back

Every pattern is two numbers. They save with your Set, so reopening plays the exact same line — and History walks back through your last 64.

  5. 05

    Follows Live's key

Switch on Follow and the line tracks your Set's root and scale in Live 12 — even when you change them mid-session. Randomize keeps the key while it's on.

  6. 06

Out to a clip or a file

Write Clip drops the phrase into the next empty slot. Export MIDI saves a loop-exact .mid at your tempo, ready for any DAW.

Three steps to a low end.

  1. Drop it on a MIDI track

Place it in front of any instrument — Operator, Analog, Drift, or your favourite bass preset.

  2. Press Play in Live

The bassline plays in sync with your arrangement. Stop Live and it goes quiet.

  3. Randomize until it grooves

Lock what you like, re-roll the rest, then Write Clip or Export MIDI to keep it.

Buy once, keep it. One-time purchase, free lifetime updates — when a new version lands, swap in the new .amxd.

Under the hood

Timing handled by Max, not by luck.

The pattern is generated in JavaScript, but JavaScript never sends a note. It writes an event table that a high-priority native chain plays at 10-tick resolution, straight from Live's song time. Note-offs fire on stop, on loop jumps and on every pattern change.

One self-contained .amxd file. Nothing to keep next to it.
